Baltimore, MD -- Progressive Maryland's board of directors last night
endorsed Sheila Dixon for Mayor of Baltimore in the city's upcoming
Democratic primary and Stephanie Rawlings-Blake for City Council President.

In City Council races, the statewide advocacy organization -- which has an office in Baltimore and approximately 1,000 members and supporters there -- endorsed James B. Kraft in District 1, Sharon Green Middleton in District 6, Helen Holton in District 8, and Bernard "Jack" Young in District 12.

To get Progressive Maryland's endorsement, a candidate must garner 2/3 super-majority support from the organization's board of directors.

"Baltimore is fortunate to have so many good candidates running for office this year," said Elbridge James, Progressive Maryland's president. "These six candidates stand out as champions for working families able to meet our stiff requirements for endorsement."

"All six of these candidates can run on a proven track record of real votes they have cast as lawmakers, not just promises about the future," said Sean Dobson, Progressive Maryland's executive director. "Also, many of our organizational affiliates report that these lawmakers have been effective behind the scenes moving forward a pro-worker agenda of better wages, better schools, safer streets, and expanded health care coverage."
