August 11, 2007—Standing side-by-side, Mayor Sheila Dixon endorsed Stephanie Rawlings-Blake for City Council President. The Mayor formally announced her support of Rawlings-Blake at Rally Baltimore, the mayor’s capstone campaign event.

Said Mayor Dixon, "I support Stephanie Rawlings-Blake because she will be my partner as we find solutions for Baltimore City -- she is prepared to work with me to keep Baltimore moving forward."

The two worked together as City Council members from 1995, when Rawlings-Blake was first elected, until January of this year, when Mayor Dixon rose to her current position. Rawlings-Blake said "Mayor Sheila Dixon and I share the same vision for Baltimore. I support Mayor Dixon - together we will set high expectations for the city and hold people accountable to find solutions."

Rally Baltimore, a day-long, free community celebration, takes place simultaneously at five parks around the city: Federal Hill (11 a.m.-1 p.m.), Patterson Park(12-2 p.m.), Herring Run (1-3 p.m.) and C.C. Jackson Recreation Center (2-4 p.m.). All events lead up to the large rally at Druid Hill Park (3-6 p.m.), where the mayor will endorse Rawlings-Blake.

A lifelong Baltimore resident and former elementary school teacher, Mayor Dixon has been a community advocate and public servant for over two decades. The West Baltimore resident and mother of two serves on numerous community boards and is an active member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church.
