Baltimore, MD July 14, 2007--- Baltimore's Carpenters' Union backed Mayor Sheila Dixon today in her sixth endorsement of the 2008 mayoral bid. The Mid Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters (MARCC), with 12,000 members, passed down its support, citing the mayor's "proven record."

Part of a joint voter registration and campaigning workshop, the 11 a.m. announcement took place at 801 Patapsco Avenue and featured speeches from Del. Cheryl Glenn and MARCC CEO Bill Halbert. Halbert said the mayor's problem solving skills and ability to pool the community's strengths prompted the endorsement decision.

"Sheila Dixon has a proven record of working well to bring people together to solve the challenges facing our city," he said. "She has demonstrated that she is sensitive to the needs of working families. And she has been extremely competent in crafting solutions to the problems that face our city."

Kevin Donohue, a member of the Carpenters' Union Local 1548 agreed, saying, "Mayor Dixon is always available to listen to people. She has shown she cares."

An affiliate of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, MARCC is one of the oldest and largest building trade unions in the area.

A lifelong Baltimore resident and former elementary school teacher, Mayor Sheila Dixon has been a community advocate and public servant for over two decades. The West Baltimore resident and mother of two serves on numerous community boards and is an active member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church.
