June 16, 2007— Surrounded by friends, family and supporters, Mayor Sheila Dixon welcomes the community to her Campaign Opening and Open House this Saturday. Set to the sounds of a local jazz group, the event offered both entertainment and volunteer opportunities. Supporters contributed student back packs that will be collected during the campaign and distributed to the community at back-to-school time.

Located at her campaign headquarters at 429 N. Eutaw St. (corner of Franklin and Eutaw), the June 16 event runs from 2 until 4 p.m today.

Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger who represents the Second Congressional District, which covers portions of Baltimore City, sent his regards: "I have worked with Sheila Dixon for many years. She is an assertive, dedicated, experienced leader who has the ability to get the job done."

Likewise, Congressman Cummings, who represents the Seventh Congressional district where the head quarters is located, said: "Mayor Sheila Dixon has the energy and the experience to lead Baltimore. We need her leadership to keep Baltimore moving forward."

A former kindergarten teacher, the Mayor has continued to serve the community both in public office and on numerous boards. The West Baltimore native and mother of two remains an active member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church. She holds the dual distinction of serving as Baltimore City's first-ever female Mayor and the Baltimore City Council's first female African American President.
