Sheila Dixon to Announce Candidacy

June 12, 2007 – In front of Steuart Hill Elementary school where she taught kindergarten, Sheila Dixon announced her candidacy for the upcoming mayoral election on Tuesday morning, June 12, 2007 at 10:30 AM. Surrounded by children, including her daughter and son, Jasmine and Joshua, Mayor Dixon was introduced by Bill Ferguson, a teacher at Vivien T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy.

Ferguson said, "I'm a part of a new generation of Baltimore -- I live here, I work here, I play in Baltimore City - and Mayor Sheila Dixon has inspired me to take responsibility for the health of my neighborhood, my classroom, and myself."

The Mayor put forth her vision for a cleaner, greener, healthier and safer Baltimore City.

A lifelong Baltimore resident and former elementary school teacher, Mayor Dixon has been a community advocate and public servant for over two decades. The West Baltimore resident and mother of two serves on numerous community boards and is an active member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church.
